    WASHINGTON- La Iglesia es heredera de misioneros audaces que arriesgaron su propio bienestar para compartir el Evangelio de Jesucristo, dijo el Papa Francisco. “Estamos en deuda con una tradición, una cadena de testigos que han hecho posible que las buenas noticias del Evangelio sean, en cada generación, ‘buenas’ y ‘noticias’”, dijo ante más de 25 mil presentes que se reunieron afuera de la Basílica del Santuario Nacional de la Inmaculada Concepción para la Misa de canonización de Junípero Serra, el primer Santo canonizado en suelo estadounidense. El Papa subrayó la manera en que el Padre Serra dejó su tierra natal para evangelizar a los que ya vivían en el continente de América del Norte, “aprendiendo y valorizando sus costumbres y formas particulares de vida”. Vincent Medina leyó la Primera Lectura, tomada del libro del profeta Isaías, en el idioma nativo-americano Chochenyo.
