POPE FRANCIS TO DELIVER MESSAGE AT RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CONGRESS

–Catholics across the U.S. and the world will unite virtually to participate in the 65th Anniversary of the Religious Education Congress featuring virtual presentations by a roster of renowned Catholic leaders, virtual musical concerts and art exhibits–

The Holy Father Pope Francis will deliver a message at the opening ceremony of the 65th Los Angeles Religious EducationCongress 2021 (RECongress), on Thursday, February 18, sponsored by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ Office of Religious Education. Due to COVID-19 pandemic safety measures, the largest Catholic event of its kind which has previously drawn thousands will offer virtual presentations, liturgies, a dynamic virtual exhibit hall, and scheduled broadcasts, online workshops and on-demand content from Feb. 18-21 with all content available until March 21.

“It is a great blessing that the Holy Father will address our gathering, especially this year as so many are facing challenging times due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Sister Rosalia Meza, senior director of the Archdiocese’s Office of Religious Education who announced the Holy Father’s participation today in a video available in English and Spanish. “Congress, be it virtual this year, is a time of encounter, a time to gather to celebrate and grow in our faith, bringing us closer to Christ and God’s loving mercy, but most importantly to take what we learn during these three days and take it back to our communities.

RECongress begins the day following Ash Wednesday (the first day of lent), inviting faithful to reflect and draw closer to God as the Lenten season commences. The virtual 4-day event will include presentations from leaders such as Bishop Robert McElroy of the Diocese of San Diego, Jesuit priest Fr. Gregory Boyle, international Catholic speaker and award winning author Katie Prejean McGrady, Sister Norma Pimentel named one of Time Magazine’s Most Influential People of 2020, and virtual liturgies and prayer services, concerts and art exhibits.

The closing liturgy will be celebrated virtually by Archbishop José H. Gomez on Sunday, February 21.

During the on-demand Sacred Space, artists Angelica Sotiriou, France White, Linda McCray and Dennis Doyle will invite the public to enter their art and music studios, and there they will share how their relationship with God inspires their artwork and music. The virtual event will also include on-demand virtual music concerts with well know Catholic music artists to be held Thursday and Friday, and on Saturday night a special presentation celebrating RE Congress’ 65th anniversary titled, “Looking Back and Looking Forward: A Celebration of 65 years of Adult Days and 50 year of Youth Day.”

EL PAPA FRANCISCO DARÁ UN MENSAJE EN EL CONGRESO DE EDUCACIÓN RELIGIOSA 

–Los católicos de los Estados Unidos y el mundo se unirán virtualmente para participar en el 65 aniversario del Congreso de Educación Religiosa con presentaciones virtuales de una lista de líderes católicos de renombre, conciertos musicales y exhibiciones de arte virtuales—

El Santo Padre Francisco enviará un mensaje durante la ceremonia de apertura del 65 Congreso de Educación Religiosa de Los Ángeles 2021 (RECongress), el jueves 18 de febrero, patrocinado por la Oficina de Educación Religiosa de la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles. Debido a las medidas de seguridad contra la pandemia de COVID-19, el evento católico más grande de su tipo, que anteriormente ha atraído a miles, ofrecerá presentaciones virtuales, celebraciones litúrgicas, una sala de exhibición virtual dinámica y transmisiones programadas, talleres en línea y contenido a pedido (on demand) del 18 al 21 de febrero, con todo el contenido disponible hasta el 21 de marzo.

“Es una gran bendición que el Santo Padre se dirija a los participantes de nuestro evento, especialmente este año, cuando muchos se enfrentan a tiempos difíciles debido a la pandemia de COVID-19”, dijo la Hermana Religiosa Rosalía Meza, directora principal de la Oficina de Educación Religiosa de la Arquidiócesis, quien anunció la participación del Santo Padre hoy en un video disponible en inglés y español. “El Congreso, que este  año será virtual, es un tiempo de encuentro, un tiempo para reunirnos a celebrar y crecer en nuestra fe, acercándonos a Cristo y a la misericordia amorosa de Dios, pero lo más importante es tomar lo que aprendamos durante estos tres días y compartirlo con nuestras comunidades”.

El Congreso de Educación Religiosa comienza un día después del Miércoles de Ceniza (el primer día de Cuaresma), invitando a los fieles a reflexionar y acercarse a Dios al comenzar la temporada de Cuaresma. El evento virtual de cuatro días incluirá presentaciones de líderes como el Obispo Robert McElroy de la Diócesis de San Diego, el sacerdote jesuita P. Gregory Boyle, la oradora católica internacional y autora galardonado Katie Prejean McGrady, la Hermana Religiosa Norma Pimentel, nombrada por la revista Time entre las personas más influyentes de 2020, y celebraciones litúrgicas, servicios de oración, conciertos y exhibiciones de arte, todos virtuales.

La liturgia de clausura será celebrada virtualmente por el Arzobispo José H. Gomez el domingo 21 de febrero.

Durante el Espacio Sagrado (Sacred Space) a pedido (on demand), los artistas Angelica Sotiriou, France White, Linda McCray y Dennis Doyle invitarán al público a ingresar a sus estudios de arte y música, y allí compartirán cómo su relación con Dios inspira su obra de arte y música. El evento virtual también incluirá conciertos de música virtual a pedido con reconocidos artistas de la música católica, el jueves y viernes, y el sábado por la noche se realizará una presentación especial para celebrar el 65 aniversario del Congreso, titulada “Mirando hacia atrás y hacia adelante: Una celebración de 65 años de Días de Adultos y 50 años del Día de la Juventud”.
