This Easter, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels unveiled a new painting titled The Resurrection by renowned artist Peter Adams, which is featured in the South Ambulatory of the Cathedral.

“This scene illustrates the event that happened when Mary Magdalena saw Jesus after he came out of the thumb on Easter Sunday. She didn’t recognize him at first, and thought he was the gardener,” said Adams. “I am incredibly thankful to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and to our Lord and savior that my painting The Resurrection is installed at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.”

Adams has received numerous accolades and awards for his work as a contemporary American artist. He enrolled at the Lukits Academy of Fine Arts in Los Angles where he discovered the traditional artistic philosophies he admires today. Adams spent seven years in diligent formal training, eventually becoming the personal apprentice to the renowned mural, landscape and portrait painter, Theodore N. Lukits (1897-1992).

Self-taught artist GEO installed a mural titled Resurrection I at Resurrection Parish in Boyle Heights. After about eight months of hand painting, the 48-foot canvas was installed days before Easter Sunday with the aim of bringing hope to the community after the damage of the 2018 parish fire.

“We all connect with each other through love. Our relationships are visualized and metamorphosized through the liturgy of art,” said GEO. “Past, present, the future, I will forever study the paradox of love through the ages by the masters of art I admire.”

GEO is currently working on a sculpture for Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Santa Barbara.
