The Archdiocese of Los Angeles in partnership with Catholic Charities Los Angeles will provide assistance with Temporary Protection Status (TPS) applications, as the federal government has opened a re-registration period, which ends on March 19, 2018, for those who already have TPS.

“While the end of TPS is difficult for our immigrant community, it’s important that we continue to pray for a solution and the possibility of permanent legal status,” said Isaac Cuevas, associate director of the Archdiocese’s Office of Immigration Affairs.

The Archdiocese is encouraging all who are eligible for TPS renewal to submit their applications as soon as possible. For that purpose, the Office of Immigration Affairs and Catholic Charities have scheduled two information sessions:

• Monday, January 29: 6pm to 9 pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, 2632 W. 15th St., LA 90006
• Saturday, February 3: 4pm to 7pm at Santa Rosa Parish, 668 S. Workman St., San Fernando, 91340

The sessions will address topics such as understanding the legal status, finding trusted legal resources, the Department of Homeland Security’s recent actions on TPS, other immigration options, and how to avoid immigration fraud.

Appointments are required for application renewal. TPS recipients can call Catholic Charities at (213) 251-3491.

“This final TPS renewal will be necessary for what lies ahead. The Catholic Church is here to help inform people and walk them through this process,” said Cuevas.
