The Department of Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles joins students, parents, and educators across the country in celebrating National Teacher Appreciation Week from May 8-12, 2023, and today on California Day of the Teacher (May 10), the launch of a new teacher appreciation campaign and recruitment effort, called “We See You.”

“We know our teachers are the best in California, and we want them to know how much we appreciate their dedication and commitment to our students and families,” said Paul Escala, Senior Director and Superintendent of Schools. “We want other educators to see the beauty and joy that emanates from our community and ask them to consider a vocation of teaching at a Catholic school.”

Catholic schools across the Archdiocese of Los Angeles are honoring and recognizing teachers during National Teacher Appreciation Week. Events include school-wide concerts, staff lunches, and dinners. Archdiocesan teachers serve more than 67,000 students as part of the largest faith-based education system in the nation with 255 schools serving a diverse (socioeconomic, cultural, religious) range of students — 78% are minorities and 1 out of 6 are non-Catholic– in grades PK through 12 and hold the keys to shaping our future generations.

In In partnership with Canvas United, a United Collective Agency (Huntington Beach/New York City), the “We See You” campaign is an homage to our educators to thank them for their tireless commitment and to spotlight the immensely important job that they do across the Archdiocesan Catholic elementary and high schools in Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. It is also an invitation for others to consider the vocation of teaching at a Catholic school. Launching with a video shared across multiple platforms, the campaign includes YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn initiatives running through July 31, 2023.

“We’re grateful to partner with Canvas United to provide this special tribute to our wonderful teachers not only on Teacher Appreciation Week but beyond,” added Escala.

“We See You” features poignant, black-and-white photographs taken on-site of teachers at schools throughout our Archdiocese. The striking images, by Los Angeles photographer Cynthia Garcia, present dramatic, yet intimate, portraits of the many faces behind Catholic education in Los Angeles.
