The Catholic Cemeteries & Mortuaries of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles announced today that its 11 locations in Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties will resume normal cemetery visitation and funeral services with guidelines for patrons, visitors and staff to limit the spread of COVID-19.

“We have been working diligently with state and local officials to ensure the safety of our patrons, visitors and staff while continuing uninterruptedly in our sacred ministry to provide essential services to families during these challenging times,” said Doug Farruggia, COO, Cemeteries & Mortuaries of the Archdiocese. “We are pleased to share that our 11 Catholic cemetery and mortuary locations have reinstated normal visitation hours and funeral services while maintaining safety and distancing guidelines to limit the spread of COVID-19.”

New Catholic Cemeteries & Mortuaries guidelines in effect until further notice include:

  • Following proper protocols, the Catholic Cemeteries & Mortuaries have resumed funeral services in its six mortuary chapels. These services are subject to the same guidelines as parishes. It is important to note that each chapel varies in size and patrons should contact individual mortuary locations for specific details.
  • Graveside services throughout the 11 cemeteries have resumed without attendance limits. Attendees must adhere to social (physical) distancing of at least six feet between the group of household members, funeral staff and clergy member.
  • Resumed normal cemetery visitation hours throughout all 11 cemeteries.  For safety reasons the cemetery may limit the number of cars entering the cemetery at any time. Access to office facilities are limited to appointments only; visitors requiring information should call the cemetery office.
  • Cemetery and mortuary staff are available for funeral and burial arrangements in both at-need and pre-need capacities. All arrangements are by appointment only with great sensitivity given to the dignity of the patrons as we adhere to necessary safety protocols.
