    How did you get started in your career?

    Prior to 1990, I had been educated in liturgy and music, trained and certified as a liturgist by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. In 1990, I was asked by a very good friend of mine if I would accompany a parish choir for their upcoming 75th Anniversary of founding. After the great success of the 75th Anniversary Liturgy, the pastor asked me to become the new director of music. Several years later, after working side by side with my friend Sister Frances and subsequent to her retirement, I took over the position of director of liturgy and the pastor combined it with the position of director of music, which I held for several years at that parish in Santa Clara.

    In preparation for their final stage of formation before ordination to the priesthood next June, four men were ordained to the transitional diaconate for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Nov. 23 at St. John’s Seminary, Camarillo.

    The four (and their home parishes) are Deacons Andrew Seungku Chung, St. Gregory Nazianzen, Los Angeles; Scott Corrie, Our Lady of Lourdes, Northridge; Christopher Mario Felix, Guardian Angel, Pacoima; and Juan Jose Ochoa, St. Patrick/St. Stephen, Los Angeles.

    Such was the refrain of thousands of Catholic faithful of all ages from across the Archdiocese of Los Angeles — including Aztec and Matachines dancers, indigenous drummers, mariachi singers, members of Guadalupanos Unidos, and everyday churchgoers — who came together Dec. 1 for the 82nd annual Procession and Mass to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe.
