Catholic Cemeteries host Día de Los Muertos
On Nov. 1, Calvary Catholic Cemetery will celebrate Día de Los Muertos with a Mass at 1 p.m., followed by children’s activities, folk dancing, music and light refreshments.

Local firefighter paramedic and missionary doctors honored at White Mass at the Cathedral
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the Mission Doctors Association honored doctors, nurses and other health care professionals at the White Mass Aug. 18 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles. Auxiliary Bishop Edward W. Clark was the main celebrant of the Mass – attended by physicians, nurses, missionaries, chaplains, paramedics, students and palliative and hospice care specialists – which honored healthcare professionals for their unconditional service to the community.

Fletcher Jones Foundation awards $250,000 to Bosco Tech for emerging technologies
On Oct. 8, the Don Bosco Technical Institute (Bosco Tech) was awarded a $250,000 grant for the construction of emerging technologies laboratories and curriculum development. The Fletcher Jones Foundation awarded the grant in order to allow the school to focus on three STEM-related fields of green technologies, 3D design prototyping and robotic systems.

Loyola students return from Pope Francis trip
Eighteen sophomores and juniors from Loyola High School of Los Angeles travelled to Philadelphia to greet Pope Francis as part of 2 Philly 4 Francis: Ignatian Pilgrims on the Journey. St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, a Jesuit high school in Philadelphia, organized the event, which lasted from Sept. 24 to Sept. 28.

Archbishop Gomez launches new Hispanic Catholic radio station at cathedral
On Oct. 1, Archbishop José H. Gomez flipped the switch to launch El Sembrador (ESNE) Radio in Los Angeles at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. The celebration included a Mass and blessing of the station at noon, followed by a reception at the Cathedral Plaza Ballrooms.

Gov. Brown signs End of Life Option Act
On Oct. 5, Governor Jerry Brown signed into law the End of Life Option Act, allowing terminally ill patients to choose to end their lives via physican-assisted suicide. The bill will go into effect next year, concluding a 23-year battle to legalize a “right-to-die” law in California.
