    More than 125 deacon couples from across the Archdiocese of Los Angeles gathered together at St. Kateri Tekewitha Church in Santa Clarita the afternoon of Aug. 10 — the Feast Day of St. Lawrence, a third century deacon and martyr — for the annual archdiocesan celebration honoring the local diaconate community.

    Los Angeles was founded 234 years ago, on Sept. 4, 1781, with a Mass and a procession, calling out to the Blessed Mother for her protection of the infant pueblo in the name of Nuestra Señora de los Angeles, according to Mark Albert, founder of the Queen of Angels Foundation.

  • Crespi Carmelite High School announces new president

    The Crespi Carmelite High School board of directors has announced the selection of Ken Foersch as the next president of the Encino school. Foersch assumed the position of president on July 1, 2015, succeeding Father Tom Batsis, who had served as Crespi’s president since November 2012.

    On Aug. 2, Cardinal Leonardo Sandri presented Bishop Mikael Mouradian, eparch of the Armenian Catholics in the United States and Canada, with the decree of Pope Francis, by which St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Catholic Church was erected as the cathedral of the eparchy. Archbishop José H. Gomez among other guest clergy attended and concelebrated the Mass, celebrated by Bishop Mikael Mouradian in the Armenian rite. The decree of the Holy Father was read loudly during the Liturgy, before Cardinal Sandri gave the homily of the day.
