Cover Angelus Redesigned

Angelus News, the official news platform of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, introduced a redesigned print magazine being mailed to subscribers today. The publication’s fresh look is the fruit of two years of brainstorming and design production, a process that was delayed by the COVID-19 shutdown one year ago. See new cover attached. The print magazine redesign follows the a redesign of Angelus’ website, AngelusNews.com, which in 2020 earned the Catholic Press Association’s First Place in the category of Best Website —Magazine or Newsletter, among 11 other awards.

“When we put this much thought and effort into something, it is because we believe, as Archbishop José H. Gomez does, that the mission of Angelus is as important as ever right now,” wrote Angelus Editor-in-chief Pablo Kay in a note to readers published in the new March 12 issue.

The March 12 redesign debut edition features the story of Fr. Aloysius Ezoenyeka, a priest of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles who was gravely injured in an armed ambush during a visit to his native Nigeria over the New Year’s holiday. The article describes how Fr. Ezoenyeka escaped death thanks to the help of two bystanders, and how a network of friends and fellow priests from Los Angeles to Nigeria helped bring Fr. Ezoenyeka safely back to Sacred Heart Church in Ventura, where he is pastor.

The revamped magazine also includes a new section for printed letters to the editor, a new exclusive column from Bible scholar and theologian Dr. Scott Hahn titled “Letter and Spirit,” to guide Angelus readers through the liturgical year, and the return of the magazine’s archdiocesan events calendar after a yearlong hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As we slowly emerge from this pandemic, much will depend on how informed Catholics are about what is happening in our Church, our country, our world, and our archdiocese,” said Kay, who has led Angelus for the last three years. “Angelus tries to do that through the eyes of faith in every issue of our magazine, as well as on our website, AngelusNews.com, and our daily e-newsletter, “Always Forward.”

Angelus is published biweekly 26 times a year. To subscribe to Angelus for a low special price of $9.95 for a whole year, visit AngelusNews.com/subscribe. To register for the daily, free e-newsletter “Always Forward,” visit Newsletter.AngelusNews.com.
