CATHOLIC EDUCATION FOUNDATION RACING TEAM TO PARTICIPATE IN LA MARATHON TO RAISE SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS FOR STUDENTS WITH FINANCIAL NEED
–Teachers, administrators, students, parents, and supporters invited to join CEF’s Racing Team–
The Catholic Education Foundation (CEF) will be participating for the 4th consecutive year in the Los Angeles Marathon to raise scholarship funds for students with financial need. CEF is inviting all Catholic school teachers, administrators, students, parents, and supporters to join the CEF Racing Team that will be running in 3 races during the LA Marathon weekend, March 19-20, at Dodger Stadium, 1000 Vin Scully Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90012.
“The Catholic Education Foundation has surpassed all expectations and has been resilient in raising money for our underserved communities throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and we are excited to get out again and make an impact in our city!” said Juan B. Munoz Jr., Engagement and Stewardship Manager for CEF.
The CEF Racing Team will be running in all events offered on race weekend: the LA Big 5K (3.1 miles) on March 19 at 8:00 a.m., Charity Challenge (13.1 miles) and LA Marathon (26.2 miles) on March 20 at 6:55 a.m. All participants must be 16 years old before March 20, 2022, to run in the LA Marathon, and 12 years old before March 20, 2022, to run in the Charity Challenge.
CEF’s main purpose at the LA Marathon is to empower and drive ambassadors to educate, fundraise and spread awareness of the importance of Catholic education. Each CEF Racing Team member has a fundraising goal of $1,000. Over the past 3 years, the team has raised more than $140,000 for education scholarships for low-income students to attend a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. CEF will be accepting donations toward all runners’ goals until Thursday, March 31st at CEF Fun Raise.
If you cannot run 3, 13 or 26 miles, or you do not live locally, you can still be a part of the CEF team as a Virtual Runner by creating a fundraising page on 2022 CEF Racing Team and share with friends, family, and colleagues. A Virtual Runner is a committed advocate for CEF’s mission.
CEF provides tuition assistance to the most financially deserving students attending Catholic elementary and high schools within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, many of which are in the inner cities. Since it was founded in 1987 by Cardinal Roger Mahoney, CEF has raised more than $225 million and awarded more than 202,000 scholarships. CEF’s tuition awards help give children the opportunity to access a Catholic school and receive a quality, values-based education. Ninety-eight percent of CEF students graduate from a Catholic high school and are prepared to attend a four-year college or university. With over 10,000 students currently receiving CEF awards, the money raised at the LA Marathon will help fund scholarships for those students. For more information visit www.cefdn.org.
