CATHEDRAL OF OUR LADY OF THE ANGELS TOLLS BELLS TODAY IN SOLIDARITY AND SUPPORT OF NOTRE-DAME CATHEDRAL
Today after daily Mass at noon the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels tolled its bells in solidarity with the Archdiocese of Paris and support for Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral following Monday’s devastating fire. The 36 bells in the Carillon and four bells in the Campanile of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels rang for more than a minute as a symbol of the love and prayers from the faithful of Los Angeles to the people of Paris. Video of the bells tolling can be found at https://www.facebook.com/olacathedral/videos/845610479121941/.
“We join our brothers and sisters in Paris and throughout the world in mourning the fire at Notre-Dame Cathedral,” said Archbishop JosH. Gomez. “These days reminds us that a church is not just a building of stone and wood, marble and glass. It is a temple to the living God, where God is present and comes to dwell with us, a place where we praise him and devote our lives to him in love. Let us ask our Blessed Mother Mary to help us to bring good out this tragic event, through a new dedication to living our faith with courage and joy, building God’s kingdom with our lives.
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles is joining Catholic dioceses nationwide to raise funds to help resurrect and rebuild the Notre-Dame Cathedral. www.SupportNotreDame.org has been established by the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC with support from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to collect local contributions toward repairing the severe damage to the centuries-old structure. All proceeds garnered by www.SupportNotreDame.org will be used solely for the assistance of Notre-Dame Cathedral and those affected by this tragedy.
