Like many of you, I have been looking forward to Pope Francis’ new encyclical letter on the care of creation.

Dying with dignity in California

California is closer to legalizing doctor-assisted suicide.

The state Senate last week approved SB 128, “The End of Life Options Act,” which would allow doctors to prescribe drugs that terminally ill patients can take to kill themselves. The bill is now being considered by the state Assembly.

This Sunday, we end the Easter season with the great feast of Pentecost, celebrating the “birthday” of the Church and the start of the Church’s mission to the world.

For me, this joyful season of Easter has gone too quickly!

It has been my privilege to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation at many parishes during this season of the resurrection — and I’m happy that I will be visiting more of you in the days and weeks ahead.
