On Oct. 23, we celebrated our annual White Mass for those in the healing professions of medicine and health care at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

We are a Church of saints and martyrs.

The vast majority are hidden in the humble witness of the everyday. In her liturgical calendar, the Church remembers “officially” only a select number of the countless saints and martyrs there have been down through the centuries.

Last week I had the joy to welcome the priests of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels for a day of fellowship and prayer.

End the death penalty in California

On the ballot this Nov. 8 in California is Proposition 62.

This proposition would repeal the death penalty in our state and would make life in prison without parole the maximum punishment that could be imposed for crimes of murder.

LA LECCIÓN MÁS IMPORTANTE QUE TENEMOS QUE APRENDER

Siempre es maravilloso orar como católicos porque cuando se celebra la Eucaristía estamos unidos en oración a la familia de Dios que se encuentra en todos los lugares de nuestro país, en todas las culturas y todas y en todas partes del mundo. Y en la Eucaristía todos nos unimos al culto que le rinden a Dios los ángeles y los santos del cielo.

The most important lesson we have to learn

It is always wonderful to pray as a Catholic. Because when we celebrate the Eucharist — we are joined in prayer with the family of God in every part of our country, in every culture and every part of the world. And in the Eucharist we are all joined together in the worship of God with the angels and saints in heaven.
