    Luciana and Fabian Perez, parents of Cathedral Chapel School students Camila Perez and Tiago Perez, visited Rome this summer with their family and met Pope Francis. Fabian Perez is a renowned artist, originally from Argentina, who painted a portrait of Pope Francis that he personally presented to the pontiff. The Perez family trip included Camila, who is the 4th grader at Cathedral Chapel, and Tiago, who is a 1st grader, as well as their 4-year-old child, Santino.

    On the first day of his American visit, Pope Francis wasted no time delving into difficult issues: clergy sex abuse, immigration and climate change. By the afternoon he had declared Junipero Serra a saint during a Mass before 25,000 people. And in lighter moments, he was welcomed to the White House by thousands of cheering onlookers, posed for a selfie with spectators and took a brief ride on the Ellipse in a popemobile.
