Most likely the answer to that question is “what do you do for a living?” As a society, we take note of the kinds of jobs or careers our friends, neighbors, and acquaintances have. We identify other people and ourselves as lawyers, teachers, factory workers, store clerks, and more. That identity is important to us. It gives us a sense of dignity.
