    LOS ÁNGELES (California) – Amigos, familiares, y agentes del departamento de policía le dieron el último adiós al agente Chris Cortijo, quien falleció días después de estar en el hospital, tras el accidente causado por una mujer que manejaba bajo la influencia de drogas y alcohol.

    Los servicios fúnebres se realizaron en la catedral Nuestra Señora de Los Ángeles, en la que compañeros y conocidos del oficial estuvieron presentes para después salir en caravana hacia el parque memorial Forest Lawn en Hollywood Hills.

    LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A funeral was held Tuesday for the LAPD officer killed in the line of duty after a suspected DUI driver struck him while he was on his motorcycle.

    The service for Chris Cortijo began at about 9 a.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Hundreds of attendees watched as Cortijo’s casket was carried in by uniformed officers.

    After a 14-year hiatus, English-speaking Catholic radio will be returning to the Los Angeles area. Immaculate Heart Radio recently announced the purchase of KTYM AM 1460, a religious station in the Inglewood neighborhood of southwest Los Angeles, for $6 million. About 40 percent of the funding for the purchase of the station comes from the support of donors. The signal will reach much of Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

    In Hermosa Beach, dozens of Catholic parishioners gathered on the beach to pray as the sun rose behind them. This is the fourth year that Our Lady of Guadalupe Hermosa Beach Catholic Church has sponsored the beachside service.

    Hundreds of pet owners are expected to attend Saturday’s 84th annual Blessing of the Animals in downtown Los Angeles.

    The event is “held in grateful recognition of the tremendous services given to the human race by the animal kingdom,” church officials said. The free event takes place from noon to 5 p.m. on Olvera Street.
