    From his youth in Los Angeles to assisting at Vatican II to a diplomatic assignment in Madagascar to serving four popes and to being the shepherd of two major U.S. archdioceses, Cardinal Rigali has seen his vocation to the priesthood take him around the globe.

Gomez reconsecrated the United States to Mary, Mother of the Church, from the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. And last March, Pope Francis stood alone in St. Peter’s Square, holding a monstrance high as he blessed the Church and the world with the Blessed Sacrament via a livestream broadcast.

    It is an understatement to say that Fr. Albert has an interesting background! He was born the youngest of seven in Beirut, Lebanon in 1956 and raised in the Greek Catholic Church. The civil war in Lebanon forced him to complete a bachelor’s degree and subsequent Master and Doctorate degrees in chemical engineering in the United States, followed by university teaching. He moved to California in 1984 to work in retail and fast-food businesses, including ownership of a Subway franchise.

    For nearly a quarter century, Edgar Lopez was a pillar of St. Anne Church in Carthage, Mississippi. The devoted husband and father of three spent four years studying pastoral ministry to better lead prayer groups, youth ministry, and social outreach. He gave generously from his wages as a mechanic at a local poultry plant.
