Most Memorial Day observances in Los Angeles County will be virtual Monday because of the coronavirus pandemic but in-person events are planned for Long Beach, Newhall and Westlake Village.
A reading of names of service members who have died in combat since 9/11 will begin at 5:30 a.m. at Rosie the Riveter Park in Long Beach. Active-duty military, law enforcement, first responders and veterans will read the names.

Charity is a necessary part of politics, Pope Francis told youth from around the world on Thursday.
“Politics are the highest form of charity. Love is a political matter. Love is for everybody, and when love is not universal, politics fail in their intent,” Pope Francis said, through a Vatican News language interpreter, on Thursday.
