    With timely hitting and clutch pitching, Louisville High School captured its first-ever CIF-Southern Section softball championship May 18 with a 5-1 upset win over top-seeded Torrance at Deanna Manning Stadium in Irvine.

    There’s a nice pontifical ring to it, but it also comes with a miter, crozier, and pectoral cross. And the club’s boundaries are only suggested by the size of the church.

    La Misa de ordenación fue concelebrada por los Obispos Auxiliares de Los Ángeles Edward W. Clark, Marc V. Trudeau, David G. O’Connell, Robert E. Barron y el Cardenal emérito del Arzobispo Rogelio Mahony, junto con los Obispos jubilados Thomas J. Curry y Gerald E. Wilkerson.

    Continuing a roller-coaster ride of a season that has been on the upswing when it counts the most, Santa Margarita has advanced to the Division 2 finals of the CIF-Southern Section Baseball Tournament.

    Since 2009, at least one local Catholic school has won a CIF-Southern Section divisional softball championship each year. In 2019, it’s Louisville of Woodland Hills with the chance to continue the streak.

    Mater Dei, Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks and Crespi posted solid second-place finishes in their respective divisions at the CIF-Southern Section Track and Field Championships, held May 11 at El Camino College in Torrance.

    From the outside, the replica of Independence Hall in Burbank will not be changed.

    Yet inside the walls of Bellarmine-Jefferson High School’s campus, an extensive overhaul inside is currently underway, leading up to its reopening as St. John Paul II STEM Academy on Aug. 14 with the arrival of its inaugural freshmen class.

  • Ramona Convent hosts 26th annual academic competition

    At this year’s Ramona Challenge, a day of fun and competition for girls in grades 5-8, over 700 students from 20 local elementary schools converged on Ramona Convent in Alhambra to show off their smarts. Competitors were selected from their respective schools to compete in artistic, athletic, musical, and academic contests designed by Ramona’s high school students and faculty members.

  • Pomona Catholic receives Spirit of Caring Award

    At the 35th annual San Gabriel Region Volunteer Recognition Dinner on Monday, May 6, Pomona Catholic School received the Spirit of Caring Award, honoring the school’s faithful service to their community. The school is one of three awardees for this year, including Bishop David O’Connell and the late Bill Clark.
