Court rules against real estate mogul who pressured nuns with ‘bad deal’
L.A. County Superior Court Judge Stephanie Bowick ruled April 13 that the contested sale of the former convent of the Immaculate Heart of Mary religious sisters to urban developer Dana Hollister is invalid. Bowick entered an order May 2 affirming the sisters as the rightful owner of the Waverly Drive property and ordering Hollister to immediately vacate the premises.

Louisville High School choir wins first place at choral competition
On April 15, the Royal Company — an extracurricular choir at Louisville High School in Woodland Hills — won first place in a competition at the Music in the Parks Music Festival. The 13 student singers, accompanied by pianist Francesco Alleruzzo and conducted by music teacher Maura Crawley, sang three classical pieces. The following day during an awards ceremony at Disneyland, the choir was awarded a first-place ranking.

The CYO Boys Basketball Championships were held at Providence High School in Burbank on March 6, featuring teams from across the Archdiocese of Los Angeles demonstrating the depth of talent from schools throughout the CYO.

Los Angeles Catholics to build Habitat for Humanity home
On April 16, the Habitat L.A. Catholic Coalition broke ground for a house in Montebello, drawing nearly 60 volunteers from 10 local parishes. Auxiliary Bishop O’Connell attended the event, blessing both the site and the volunteers.

Don Bosco Tech band earns highest honors at music festival
On April 8, Don Bosco Technical Institute’s Symphonic Band earned top honors during the WorldStrides Heritage Performance Music Festival in Washington state, where they earned a gold rating and first place ranking.
