ARCHBISHOP GOMEZ CALLS UNACCOMPANIED MINORS TO KEEP IN MIND THEY ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO GOD DESPITE DIFFICULT SITUATIONS
—The Archbishop delivered a homily on the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity during a morning Sunday Mass for the children sheltered at the Long Beach Convention Center, where the children were gifted blessed rosaries—
Archbishop José H. Gomez called unaccompanied migrant children to keep in their minds they are very important to God even during adversities, and to trust in God’s plans for their lives. The Archbishop delivered the words in his homily in Spanish during an important day for Catholics, the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) at a morning Mass on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at the Long Beach Convention Center, where the minors are sheltered since early May. Rosaries blessed by Archbishop Gomez were handed to the children at the end of the Mass. Link to photos of the rosaries here. Please credit the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
“Somos muy importantes para Dios. We are very important to God. We always must keep that in mind, and even though we sometimes have difficult situations, we must trust God’s plan for our lives,” Archbishop Gomez said in his homily in Spanish. Please see below full homily in English and Spanish.
“I am pleased to be with you to celebrate the feast of the Holy Trinity, which is the central mystery of our faith and of Christian life. We believe in one God in the Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.”
Archbishop Gomez made emphasis on how God always wants to be close to his children and that he loves each human being in a very personal way, fulfilling all our needs in beautiful, good or difficult times. “Nunca estamos solos. Dios está siempre con nosotros. (We are never alone. God is always with us)”
“(Trinity Sunday) is a day when we must reflect and marvel at the existence and essence of God and our relationship with each of the Divine Persons, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. God who has created us, who wants to be close to us, and to be the center of our lives,” he said.
“God is with us in our hearts. God, who made heaven and earth, and who created each of us knows us and loves us personally. God is always with us, in good and beautiful times and in difficult times, when we are happy or when we have a sadness. And that is why it is so important to trust in God. And go to him all the time! When we are happy and when we have a concern.”
Quoting the second reading of the Apostle Paul,“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God,” he reminded the children they are sons and daughters of God, although they have their parents, and to think about that fact as a source of peace and love.
“We are sons and daughters of God. It is true that we are sons and daughters of our fathers, but we cannot forget that we are also sons and daughters of God, who is our Father in Heaven. If we think about it, it will always give us a lot of peace to know that God loves each of us as his favorite children.
“And as St Paul says: ‘That we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.’”
The Archbishop reiterated that the “Church is God’s family and that all of us are part of God’s family. In the Catholic Church we always feel accompanied and supported by all our needs. Our spiritual needs and our material needs,” he told the children.
Rosaries blessed by Archbishop Gomez –donated by the Cemeteries and Mortuaries of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the Follow Our Lady Project and the Knights of Columbus—were handed to the children at the end of the Mass.
“We are going to give you a rosary so that you can also feel the presence of the Virgin Mary, Mother of God, and our mother,” Archbishop had announced to the children. “I always bring the Rosary with me. And I pray it every day. And it has always helped me a lot, so I recommend praying the Rosary to each of you,” he told them.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I am pleased to be with you to celebrate the feast of the Holy Trinity, which is the central mystery of our faith and of Christian life. We believe in one God in the Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
God the Father who is the creator, God the Son who is the redeemer and God the Holy Spirit who is the sanctifier. Three persons and one God.
It is a day when we must reflect and marvel at the existence and essence of God and our relationship with each of the Divine Persons, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. God who has created us, who wants to be close to us, and to be the center of our lives.
Today’s Mass readings tell us how God wants to be with us. That is why he has given us the commandments, made us his children, and promises to be with us until the end of time.
In the first reading of today’s Mass, Moses tells us: “you must now know,
and fix in your heart, that the LORD is God in the heavens above and on earth below,
and that there is no other.”
God is with us in our hearts. God, who made heaven and earth, and who created each of us knows us and loves us personally.
We are very important to God. We always must keep that in mind, and even though we sometimes have difficult situations, we must trust God’s plan for our lives.
In the second reading of the Apostle Paul tells us: “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.”
We are sons and daughters of God. It is true that we are sons and daughters of our fathers, but we cannot forget that we are also sons and daughters of God, who is our Father in Heaven.
If we think about it, it will always give us a lot of peace to know that God loves each of us as his favorite children.
And as St Paul says: “That we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.”
When we think and live as sons and daughters of God, we are confident that God is with us and that he will always help us in our needs.
God is always with us, in good and beautiful times and in difficult times, when we are happy or when we have a sadness. And that is why it is so important to trust in God. And go to him all the time! When we are happy and when we have a concern.
We are never alone. God is always with us.
Finally, in the Gospel passage, Jesus tells us:
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”
As we accept God’s presence in our lives, we feel more encouraged to share with others the joy of our faith in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Once again, we must remember that God our Lord wants each of us, with joy and without fear, to share our faith with others because we know that God is very good and loves each of us very much personally. That he has given us the gift of life and that he wants us to be happy.
Always remember that the Church is God’s family and that all of us are part of God’s family. In the Catholic Church we always feel accompanied and supported by all our needs. Our spiritual needs and our material needs.
And do not forget that God is always with us, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Do not stop feeling God’s presence in your lives and always come to God’s help in your needs.
At the end of the Mass, we are going to give you a rosary so that you can also feel the presence of the Virgin Mary, Mother of God, and our mother.
I always bring the Rosary with me. And I pray it every day. And it has always helped me a lot, so I recommend praying the Rosary to each of you.
Today we ask the Blessed Virgin Mary to be with all of you always and to always bring each of you closer to God.

¡Y acudir a él siempre!
