    Even though youth and young adults were not even conceived during Pope John XXIII’s papacy, all have experienced his legacy through his successor Pope John Paul II.

    “He cared. Along with Pope John XXIII, he genuinely cared for people,” said Jillian Ford of St. Francis de Sales parish in Sherman Oaks.

    La oficina por una Nueva Evangelización de la Arquidiócesis, junto con los Caballeros de Colón llevarán, a cabo una vigilia especial para honrar la vidas y pontificados de Juan Pablo II y Juan XXIII, este sábado desde las 7:00 de la tarde hasta las 11:00 de la noche.

    Pope Francis will bestow sainthood on two of his predecessors, Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII, in a historic double canonization in the Vatican, Sunday, April 27. It will not only be celebrated by Catholics throughout the Inland region, it will prompt at least one area church to change its name.

    The historic canonization of Blessed Popes John Paul II and John XXIII in Rome on April 27th will be celebrated locally with a special Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday, April 27th at 3:30pm, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles. The Mass will be celebrated by His Eminence Archbishop Jose Gomez. Thousands are expected to attend the celebration of the Eurcharist to give thanks for the soon-to-be saints. Diocesan Primate Archbishop Hovnan Derderian will be represented at the event by His Eminence Arcbhishop Vatche Hovsepian, the Very Rev. Fr. Dajad Dz. V. Yardemian and Deacon Stepan Hovagimian.

    Catholics around the world are celebrating two popes who are about to be made saints this weekend. The L.A. Archdiocese is marking the historic canonization with a special ceremony and exhibit at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles. The music and prayer event on Saturday night is timed to coincide with the canonization ceremony in Rome.
