[COLUMN] A House Of Prayer For All People
Our First Reading from the Book of Isaiah (Isaiah 56:1, 6-7) states: “My house shall be a house of prayer for all people.” These words are placed at the front of Incarnation Church and the main entrance door of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. For, indeed, our mission is to welcome all people to our church, which our parish mission statement upholds: “To bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to people of all ages and cultures through evangelization, effective and inspiring faith formation, joyful and meaningful liturgies, and outreach to the poor, the marginalized, and others in need.”

U.S. parishes plan special collections to help Maui relief efforts
“Recognizing the immediate and growing need for assistance” for Hawaii’s wildfires victims, Boston Cardinal Sean P. O’Malley has called on all parishes in his archdiocese to take a special collection to support church relief efforts in the Diocese of Honolulu in the aftermath of the devastating Aug. 8-9 wildfires.

Good Shepherd Church Celebrates Centennial Mass
The Church of the Good Shepherd in Beverly Hills celebrated a centennial mass on Aug. 13. The Most Reverend José H. Gomez, Archbishop of Los Angeles, officiated. The invitation-only service was attended by 500 congregants and special guests, including Former California Governor Gray Davis, Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, Beverly Hills City Manager Nancy Hunt-Coffey and Deputy City Manager Keith Sterling, Mayor Dr. Julian Gold, Vice Mayor Lester Friedman, Councilmembers Lili Bosse and Sharona Nazarian, Police Chief Mark Stainbrook, Commissioners Mark Teren, Kimberly Vinokur, Laura Margo and Karla Gordy Bristol, Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Todd Johnson and other VIPs.

Eighth bus of migrants arrives in LA from Texas
An eighth bus of migrants arrived in Los Angeles from Texas Thursday. Forty asylum seekers arrived at Union Station at 11:10 a.m., having traveled about 24 hours from Brownsville on the latest chartered trip sponsored by the state of Texas. Since June, Texas has sent 323 asylum seekers to LA.
