Catholic Schools are the center of many communities throughout the nation. But for students at St. Michael’s Catholic School, the school is the community, or as one teacher, Brian Johnson put it, “It’s a light in a dark place.”

West Coast rally aims to shift the conversation on life issues
From the beginning, OneLife LA has been different because LA is different. LA, for better or worse, is known for being the heart of our cultural narrative. Archbishop Gomez had a vision that we could use this model to shift the conversation on life issues. On the eve of Donald Trump’s inauguration as U.S. president, Los Angeles Archbishop Jose H. Gomez renewed the call to recognize the humanity of immigrants at a Vatican-sponsored migration conference at the University of California in Los Angeles.

In Los Angeles Saturday, a Celebration of Life
A lot of media attention is on the so-called Women’s March on Washington happening Saturday, a seemingly thinly veiled rally for legal abortion and protest of the new Republican majority in the White House. In the “City of Angels,” a different kind of gathering is happening in Exposition Park, a bilingual “festival” with speakers who include Rwandan genocide survivor Immaculée Ilibagiza and actress Patricia Heaton. OneLife LA, sponsored by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, with the theme “Choose Love.” What does that mean exactly? Kathleen Buckley Domingo, associate director of the Office of Life, Justice and Peace there talks a bit about it.
