Una de las tradiciones más importantes de México es el Día de los Muertos que tiene lugar cada 2 de noviembre en ocasión de la conmemoración católica de los Fieles Difuntos. Con la migración de los mexicanos a Estados Unidos, esta festividad también ha traspasado fronteras y ahora se celebra en varias diócesis católicas del país norteamericano.

Girls’ tennis: CIF successes after the Fernandez family
As noted in a recent Angelus News article (Sept. 8), the Fernandez family of Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance made history in the 1970s when four sisters (twins Anna Maria and Anna Lucia, and twins Cecilia and Elisa) who were coached by their mother Dolores captured individual and team championships in the CIF-Southern Section girls’ tennis tournament.

Los Angeles ACCW spreads the light of Christ
The Los Angeles Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women (ACCW) held its 66th conference — titled “Spreading the Light of Christ” — Oct. 10 at the Quiet Cannon in Montebello, where more than 450 women (and a few men) gathered from across the archdiocese to hear keynote speaker Bishop Robert Barron.

Honoring the departed at upcoming Día de los Muertos celebrations
he faithful from across the Archdiocese of Los Angeles are invited to remember deceased loved ones by participating in Día de los Muertos (All Souls’ Day) celebrations on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard, and on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Calvary Cemetery in East Los Angeles.

35 places to celebrate Dia de los Muertos in Southern California
Day of the Dead is a celebration when the dearly departed return briefly to earth, to spend time with those they left behind. Celebrants create altars dedicated to the memory of the deceased, laden with some of their favorite things – from a bottle of liquor to a stuffed animal, and decorated with marigolds, the traditional flower of the dead.

Our Lady of Guadalupe annual pilgrimage begins in Ventura County
In celebration of the 486th anniversary of the miraculous apparitions of the Virgin of Guadalupe to St. Juan Diego, this year “La Peregrina,” a pilgrim image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, began its annual archdiocesan pilgrimage at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Ojai on Oct. 21.
