    Kevin Baxter prepared to attend the graduation ceremony at St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy in Downey on May 26 full of hope and excitement. This graduating class was the first co-ed class in the history of a school formed from the merger of the all-boys’ school St. Pius X with the all-girls’ St. Matthias five years ago. The 2017 graduation is a success story for Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

    La decisión de aceptar el llamado a la vida sacerdotal o a la vida religiosa es algo más que escoger una profesión. Implica descubrir los propios talentos e inclinaciones, pero sobre todo significa responder a un llamado. Dios llama de un modo personal. Los relatos vocacionales bíblicos nos lo explican de un modo detallado. Los invito a que lean la vocación de Moisés en (Éxodo 3:1-12) donde podemos ver que Dios sale a nuestro encuentro en nuestra vida ordinaria. En el caso de Moisés estaba pastoreando. Nos llama de un modo personal, a él lo llama por su nombre “Moisés, Moisés”. Nos invita a compartir su misión; lo que está en contra de la humanidad y de nuestra felicidad está en contra de Dios. A Moisés le dijo que sentía el dolor de los esclavizados judíos en Egipto, y que lo enviaba a él a liberar a su pueblo. Moisés se resistió a aceptar la misión, “¿Quién soy yo?”, pero Dios le refirma su compromiso de no dejarlo solo: “Yo estaré contigo”. La experiencia vocacional de Moisés se repite en otros personajes bíblicos como Gedeón, Jeremías o incluso en la vocación de la Santísima Virgen María. Y esa misma experiencia vocacional se repite hoy en la vida de cada uno de nosotros. Lo importante es que estemos atentos para escuchar y responder al llamado de Dios.
