José H. Gomez, the archbishop of Los Angeles, was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Loyola Marymount University. The award is in recognition of his “dedication to social justice and the future of Catholic education,” according to a press release from LMU.

Ten thousand places in a Catholic school
I remember the swell of nostalgia I felt during my last Catholic Schools Week as a senior in high school. Catholic Schools Week meant our homerooms would be busy writing letters to thank donors who supported our school, but it also meant that we would be getting ice cream sandwiches from said donors at lunch.

Established more than 100 years ago, Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles provide faith-based education where students receive tools for success in college and in their future careers focused on a commitment to service to their local and global communities.
