Gift cards replace visits for Adopt-a-Family

Due to the pandemic, this year the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ Adopt-a-Family program will replace its in-person, volunteer-based gift and food distribution to underserved families in Skid Row and Downtown LA with distribution of gift cards to more than 500 families through different organizations that serve the families.

Archdiocese Provides Assistance To Families Suffering During Pandemic

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles announced today its Cardinal McIntyre Fund provided financial assistance to more than 350 families suffering financial loss during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Almost all houses of worship shut down in March when the pandemic began and initial lockdowns were announced. But, by May, when Gov. Gavin Newsom had begun to plot a course for the gradual reopening of other businesses and venues as cases went down, faith leaders began to question why houses of worship were way down the list, grouped with entertainment venues such as movie theaters and sports arenas.
