    The Dead Sea Scrolls are returning to American shores for the first time in nearly a decade. “Dead Sea Scrolls: The Exhibition,” featuring scroll fragments from ancient Israel, including pieces of a first-century boat found in the Sea of Galilee, opened at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute in Simi Valley, California, on Nov. 22.

    For more than 20 years, sacred artist Lalo Garcia has expressed his devotion to the Virgin Mary through art. Garcia’s work will take center stage at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles with a special exhibit honoring La Virgen de Guadalupe.

    Garcia, originally from Michoacán, Mexico, has spent decades creating artwork that blends faith, culture and tradition. His pieces can be found in churches and institutions across LA, including the well-known mural of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe at the Cathedral.

    The 93rd edition of Los Angeles’ oldest religious procession drew more than 20,000 people to East Los Angeles Dec. 1 to commemorate the 493rd anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe to the Mexican peasant Juan Diego, organizers said.

    The procession and Mass honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Juan Diego began at Our Lady of Solitude Catholic Church then went through the streets of East Los Angeles. Its theme was “Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of the Eucharist.”

    The procession’s lineup included Guadalupano parish groups, 37 groups of Aztec dancers and 35 “andas,” decorated carts used by students from Catholic schools and representatives of other ministries in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to carry images of the Virgin of Guadalupe during the procession, according to organizers.
