VATICAN’S SOCIAL MEDIA EXPERT TO BE KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT ARCHDIOCESE TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE

Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ C3 Technology Conference, August 11-14, explores innovative technology in parishes and schools

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the nation’s largest diocese, will unite principals, teachers, clergy and staff from more than 125 parishes and schools, at the 3rd Annual Catholic
Communication Collaboration (C3) Technology Conference from August 11-14 at Loyola Marymount University, St. Robert’s Hall, 1 LMU Drive, in Los Angeles, CA 90405.

As the conference’s keynote speaker, Msgr. Paul Tighe, Secretary to the Pontifical Council for Social Communications of the Vatican, will discuss the Catholic Church’s emerging presence in
the digital world on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 11 a.m. Msgr. Tighe’s keynote speech will be live streamed at: http://archla.org/techconf. With more than 10 million followers on Twitter, the
Vatican’s resident expert on social media hopes to inspire the faithful in new and exciting ways. Msgr. Tighe will join Archbishop José Gomez to celebrate Mass on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 11
a.m. to commemorate the completion of the C3 Pilot Project.

“Integrating technology and understanding the ‘digital ‘landscape’ is new mission territory for the Church,” Archbishop Gomez said. “Our task is to understand these resources better and find ways to create what Pope Francis calls ‘a culture of encounter’ in this digital space. We need to use these new media to bring people to the encounter with Jesus and the saving power of hisGospel.”

The Loyola Marymount University School of Education continues to support the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and Catholic education. This year’s conference features 40 workshops led by
technology experts and leaders from the Archdiocese.

The conference caps off the 3 ½-year C3 Pilot Project by the Archdiocese. The pilot project was launched in 2010 at 25 parish and school locations to explore and implement innovative uses of
technology. These include 1-to-1 student devices, training and professional development, digital content and curriculum, and an online GED program for adult learners. Eventually, it is hoped
that the program will be active at the nearly 600 locations in the Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties of the Archdiocese. For more information about the conference, the pilot
