In celebration of the worldwide Jubilee 2025 “Pilgrims of Hope” dedicated by Pope Francis, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles is showcasing a new art exhibit by award-winning renowned visual artist Victor Alemán, Editor of Vida Nueva and Angelus News, to share the story of the faith and community built by the people who worship at the Cathedral since its blessing and dedication on September 2, 2002.

“These historical photos not only capture the events at the Cathedral, but they also show the faith and beauty of our Catholic community celebrated in our Mother church, a house of prayer for all people,” said Mr. Alemán. “I am honored that the Cathedral chose this exhibit as our Church worldwide begins the Jubilee Year. The scenes depicted in the exhibition reflect the theme of the jubilee, ‘Pilgrims of Hope,’ as we are all called share hope in the experiences we share together as a family of God.”

The photography exhibit named “House of Prayer for All People” will be open to the public in a chapel inside the Cathedral through January and will also depict the rich diversity of Catholic faith traditions celebrated at the Cathedral.

Throughout this Holy Year, a plenary indulgence in the usual form of the Church will be granted to all the faithful who are truly repentant and detached from any sin and confess their sins sacramentally, receive Holy Communion, pray for the intentions of the Holy Father, and go on a pilgrimage visit to the Cathedral or Mission Basilica San Buenaventura, or perform corporal or spiritual works of mercy.

The Archdiocese has established a new website hope.lacatholics.org dedicated to sharing the local events and information of the Jubilee 2025 which commenced with the Rite of the Opening of the Jubilee Year in the Archdiocese on Sunday, December 29, during the 10 a.m. Mass.

According to the Old Testament, a jubilee was to occur every fifty years as a special time of mercy. The Church celebrates a jubilee, or holy year, at least every 25 years as a time of prayer, pilgrimage, and pardon. Pope Francis opened the Jubilee in Rome on Christmas Eve. To read the Papal letter visit Letter from Pope Francis
