STATEMENT BY ARCHBISHOP GOMEZ ON LOS ANGELES SHERIFF’S DETERMINATION THAT THE DEATH OF AUXILIARY BISHOP DAVID G. O’CONNELL WAS A HOMICIDE

Archbishop José H. Gomez today received a communication from the Los Angeles County Sheriff about Bishop David G. O’Connell’s death.

Following is Archbishop Gomez’s statement:

We learned early this morning from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s office that they have determined that the death of Auxiliary Bishop David O’Connell yesterday was a homicide. We are deeply disturbed and saddened by this news.

Let us continue to pray for Bishop Dave and his family. And let us pray for law enforcement officials as they continue their investigation into this terrible crime.

We ask Our Blessed Mother Mary to intercede and be a mother for all of us in this moment of sadness and pain.

FUE UN HOMICIDIO

El Arzobispo José H. Gomez esta manana recibió comunicación del Alguacil del Condado de Los Ángeles sobre la muerte del Obispo Auxiliar David G. O’Connell.

A continuación, la declaración del Arzobispo Gomez:

Nos enteramos temprano esta mañana que de la Oficina del Alguacil del Condado de Los Ángeles determinaron que la muerte del Obispo Auxiliar David G. O’Connell ayer fue un homicidio. Estamos profundamente perturbados y entristecidos por esta noticia.

Sigamos orando por el Obispo Dave y por su familia. Y oremos por los funcionarios de las agencias policiales mientras continúan con su investigación de este terrible crimen.

Pedimos a Nuestra Santísima Madre María que interceda y que sea madre para todos nosotros en este momento de tristeza y dolor.
