    La Eucaristía llevó al convento a la hermana Antczak y ha continuado siendo el centro de su vida. La hermana dominica nació en Los Ángeles, el primer retoño de ocho del matrimonio de Alphonse J. Antczak y Helen Elizabeth Fitzpatrick -cuatro mujeres (Mary, Helen, Margaret, Teresa) y cuatro hombres (Al, Tom, John, Joseph)-. El padre, fallecido en 2006, nació en Detroit, Michigan, y su madre en Frisco, Texas, en una familia de raíces mexicanas-Aguascalientes-; su madre pasó a mejor vida en 1994.

    The Sisters of the Good Shepherd were originally founded in 1641 in France to help prostituted women and are now serving in 72 countries.

    “Almost all of our work — worldwide — is with women and children, most of whom have been abused or exploited in some way — trafficking victims, runaways, domestic violence. One in three women worldwide will be abused at some point in her lifetime,” said Sister Anne Kelley, executive director of the Good Shepherd Shelter in Los Angeles, adding that close to 98% of prostituted women were sexually abused as children.

    On Feb. 15, Archbishop José H. Gomez honored Brother Adam Benedict Becerra of the Friars of the Sick Poor as Brother of the Year at the Annual Brothers Mass and Banquet. Sponsored by the archbishop and the Council of Religious Brothers, the banquet has united brothers from across the archdiocese for more than 25 years.
