A Toluca Lake Tradition since the 1950’s Continues in Downtown Los Angeles

The family of late comedian and humanitarian Bob Hope and his wife Dolores have donated the

Italian Nativity scene, a popular sight that stood at the couple’s Toluca Lake estate for decades

during Christmas, to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, 555 W. Temple St., in downtown

Los Angeles.

“We are honored to be able to carry on this wonderful Hope family Christmas tradition at the

Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels,” said Cathedral Pastor Msgr. Kevin Kostelnik. “We offer

our prayerful gratitude to the Hope Family for this beautiful gift on behalf of all who will

experience the Hope Nativity at the Cathedral.”

Bob and Dolores Hope began displaying the life-size Nativity scene in the 1950’s. The Nativity,

which includes 18 hand-carved wood figures, were last exhibited on a raised platform on their

front yard in 2012.

Visitors can now view the Nativity at the Cathedral Plaza through the Christmas season. For
