ARCHBISHOP GOMEZ TO CELEBRATE SPECIAL MASS FOR THE UNBORN
January 18, 2014  |  By:   |  Press Releases  |

Archbishop José H. Gomez will celebrate a special “Requiem Mass for the Unborn” to honor lives lost to abortion, on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 6 p.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, 555 W. Temple St, in downtown Los Angeles.

“This Liturgy, with its original score and extraordinary Ceremony of Light is the Church at its most sincere and most convincing when it comes to the issue of the right of the unborn to breathe that first breath,” said Archbishop Gomez.

All are invited to the Mass, which marks the 41st Anniversary of Roe v. Wade. The Mass concludes with a candlelight ceremony with about 220 candles, one for each life lost to abortion that day in Los Angeles County. The candles will remain in the Cathedral plaza for a week after the Requiem Mass for viewing.

The liturgy also features an original score by John Bonaduce, music director and composer. Bonaduce’s composition, which includes hymns and music for parts of the Mass, began as a prayer service for the unborn and evolved into a Mass celebrated at the Cathedral since 2003.

The Mass will be preceded by the 2014 Youth Rally for Life, featuring speakers and performances, at the Cathedral plaza that day from 2-5 p.m. For more information and live online stream of the Mass, please visit, http://archla.org/requiem.
